Sacramento, A City with Soul

Published by angelawalters at 12:18 pm under Churches, Restaurants Edit This

Sacramento is a beautiful city. There’s history all around us, beautiful churches, fantastic landmarks, and remarkable restaurants. I have lived in many cities around the world, including, Austin, Phoenix, San Antonio, cities in Germany, Las Vegas, San Francisco, the Bay Area, and, of course, Sacramento. I currently reside in Elk Grove, which has always been my favorite place of all the places I’ve lived. I know so many of you would be shocked to find out that I love Elk Grove far more than San Francisco. But, that is because I have a soul and I want my city to have one too.

On Sunday morning you can see all the people scurrying around to go to their respective churches. Everyone is intent on worshiping the Divine, and then having lunch. The restaurants are always crowded at around noon time, all over Elk Grove and Sacramento alike. That’s because, worshiping induces a need for loads of familial food. Large groups from the churches go together out to eat which gives them the opportunity to further discuss the things they heard in the service they just attended. It is the sense of community, the sense of pride, which is so prevalent among those that live in our region.

One of the most soul endearing places in the entire city of Sacramento is a phenomenal church called Spiritual Life Center, or SLC to those of us who have made it a huge part of our lives call it. SLC is one of those places that immediately feels like home when you walk up to it. It’s housed in one of the oldest buildings in our city, a gorgeous cathedral style church, right across from Sutters Fort. The labyrinth outside as you walk up is an instant reminder that you are in a holy place of quiet contemplation. Inside the doors a person is immediately welcomed into the SLC family, with no thought of negativity or judgment. The powerful messages of hope, inspiration, power and love are so striking that they leave you breathless. The music is stirring and so powerful that it will leave you singing for days. SLC is one of the places that gives the Sacramento region so much soul.

This blog is about the soul of our beloved city. It’s not about religion or spirituality per se. Instead, it is about those things that make life worth living and souls filled with love. It’s the Saturday morning soccer games, the Sunday morning worship services. It’s the restaurants, the dog parks, the concerts, the bakeries, the schools, the capital, the people. Sacramento is one of those unique places where people still have a strong faith in community and humanity. Elk Grove is an extension of that, where many of the cities residents choose to raise their families. I will always write about things that will enrich the souls of my readers, by bringing some of the soul of the city to the blog.
